Hallingskarvet National Park depicts Norwegian nature in its most typical forms. It is located in the municipalities of Hol, Ulvik, and Aurland. The park has area about 450 km2 and it comprises the Hallingskarv plateau and the high fjell areas to the west of it. It includes also the Vargebreen glacier. Large stocks of wild reindeers are foraging in the area.

Lordehytta

This stone hut on the highest peak of the Hallingskarvet mountain was built around 1880 by the younger Lord Garvagh. It is located at 1620 meters above sea level. Iti is a largened copy of a herdsman’s summer shelter and consists of two rooms: an outer storeroom for firewood, food and equipment and an inner room with a fireplace. The cabin was completely renovated in 1990.

 

Lake Flakavatn

This beautiful lake is situated 6 km north-northeast of Finse, and it offers a remarkable wiev. The lake is situated in 1453 meters above sealevel.

 

How to get here

Norwegian State Railways (NSB) operates trains on the Oslo-Bergen railway to Haugastøl and Finse. Also a ski resort Geilo is nearby. See a journey planner and ticket prices here.

County Road 50 runs near the northern boundary of the park. See the map.
