Demänovská Ice Cave
Located in northern part of the Low Tatra Mountain range and Liptov region, this icy carst cave have attracted visitors since 1933, when it was opened to public. It is the greatest cave formation in Slovakia.
Cave is formed by the underground stream of the Demänovka River.
Lower parts of the system has remarkably filled by ice and it forms stalactites, stalagmites and rugged-looking ice columns. There is also beautiful flowstone formations and domes, highest dome reaching to appr. 40 meters.
Full length of the cave complex is about 8,2 kilometres, about half of it is open to guided groups.
The temperature in the cave during summer is usually between +0,4°C and +3°C, therefore warm clothing is recommendabe.
Guided tour to the cave last about 45 minutes. Its cost for adults is 8 euros and for children (6-15 yrs.) and handicapped people 4 euros. Taking video and pictures with a tripod costs 10 euros.
How to get
By car is the easiest access from Liptovský Mikuláš direction Jásna through Demänovská Valley. Highways E75 and E50 from Bratislava leads to Liptovský Mikuláš (285 km). For driving highways It is necessary to have a toll sticker (vignette). The price of toll sticker for one year is 50 euros. One month toll sticker is 14 euros and 10 day toll sticker costs 10 euros. You can buy the toll ticket in post offices and on the gas stations.
