Skocjan Caves
This Slovenian cave system is a remarkable nature sight, being located in the Karst region near Divača. Administratively caves are part of the The Skocjan Caves Regional Park.
It has been on the UNESCO’s list of natural and cultural world heritage sites since 1986. Also it is found on the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance as the world’s largest underground wetlands.
Description
This appr. 6 kilometres long cave system consists network of 11 caves, reaching 223 meter depth at its lowest point. Dimensions of the cave system gets their maximum at Martelovi Hall, which is reaching 146 m height and a width of 120 m, ending 2,6 kilometres long underground river canyon. Colorful mix of collapse dolines, river canyons and sink are breathtaking views with the large stalactites in the Great Hall.

How to get there
Divača is on the main train line from Ljubljana to Trieste (Italy). Ticket prices and train timetables are visible here.
Buses running between Ljubljana/Postojna and Koper/Piran are passing by Divača. If one is heading directly towards the Skocjan Caves, he can ask to be left off at the junction 3km south of Divača, a 1.5km downhill walk away from the ticket office.
